Both the Grizzlies' boys and girls soccer teams ended with wins on Thursday afternoon, with the boys shutting out Puget Sound Adventist 3-0 and the girls winning over Seattle Lutheran 4-2.

In the boys’ game, Frank Sun got the team on the board in the 7th minute of Dillon Baker’s assist, with Nima Abtahi score twice unassisted in the second half.

With the win, the boys improved to 10-1-1 in Sea-Tac 2B League play and 13-1-1 overall, and will next play in the District Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 5 against an opponent to be determined.

In the girls’ victory, Morgan Rial scored twice, in the 21st and 74th minutes, while assisting Whitney Isabell with her goal in the 30th minute.

Olivia Tillinghast also scored, unassisted, in the second half as the Grizzlies out-shot Seattle Lutheran 32-9.

The win improved the girls to 8-5-2 on the season and they will next play in the District Tournament starting on Wednesday in seeding games for the 2B state tournament.

 

Owls earn Tri-Districts berth with sweep of Forest Ridge

After Overlake’s Monday night loss to Seattle Academy, the team bounced right back with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Forest Ridge on Thursday night, 25-17, 25-12, 25-9, ensuring the Owls a spot in the Tri-District Tournament.

In the match, offensive juggernaut Kirsten Parris led the team with nine kills, followed by Emilee Chambard with five.

The Owls improved to 11-5 with the win will face off against undefeated Annie Wright (11-0 in league play) on Saturday in the tournament semifinals.

 

Grizzlies on a roll heading into postseason

The Bear Creek School girls’ volleyball team polished off a perfect 12-0 Sea-Tac 2B League season on Thursday, defeating Chief Leschi 25-9, 25-13, 25-12.

Makena Schoene led the offense with eight kills and six digs, followed by Bethan Meyer with seven kills, and setter Nikki Peterson notched 18 assists for the Grizzlies.

The team next plays at the District Tournament in Stanwood on Saturday, Nov. 5.

 

Mustangs shut out by Skyline, open Kingco tournament Saturday

The Mustangs ended their regular season with a 1-0 shutout loss to unbeaten Skyline on Tuesday night, as the Spartans improved to 9-0-1 (13-0-2) and Redmond dropped to 5-4-1 (7-6-3).

The Mustangs earned the third seed to the playoffs and will host Garfield (3-3-4, 6-5-5) at home on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the opening round, a loser-out contest.
