On June 27, democratic candidates for the 1st Congressional District will participate in a debate at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, located at 16600 N.E. 80th St.

The debate is designed to resemble presidential debates and will take place from 7:30-9 p.m.

All five Democratic candidates who have registered to run for the empty seat in the 1st Congressional District — Darcy Burner, Suzan DelBene, Steve Hobbs, Darshan Rauniyar and Laura Ruderman — will participate. Political journalists from KCTS 9, the Seattle Times and the Everett Herald will be asking the candidates questions.

The new 1st Congressional District was established Jan. 1 under the statewide redistricting. The district, which includes parts of Redmond and now stretches from northern King County to the Canadian border, was formerly represented by Jay Inslee, who resigned the seat to run for governor.

The debate is being sponsored by the Democratic Party in Washington’s 5th, 45th and 48th legislative districts.

“We expect this debate to give voters a chance to understand how these candidates stand on issues that are important to the new 1st Congressional District,” said Jim Baum, chair of Washington’s 5th Legislative District Democrats. “This is democracy in action.”
