The Eastside Symphony will present the winner of its Young Soloists audition, violinist Alice Leung, in a performance of Lalo’s romantic “Symphonie Espagnole,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 19. The performance will be part of the Eastside Symphony’s final concert of the season, “Fanfares and Fantasies,” at the Redmond High School Performing Arts Center, 17272 NE 104th St.

Leung is 16 years old and has studied violin for eight years with Art Tsaturian. She is a student at the University of Washington through acceptance into the UW Academy Honors Program, allowing her to skip her junior and senior year of high school and directly attend the university.

In the summer of 2007, she made a violin recording for the soundtrack of a documentary about World War II, called “Ladies who Lunch.”

Two years ago, Leung won awards for Most Outstanding Freshman Girl and Most Inspirational within her orchestra at Newport High School. The following year, she won the Most Outstanding Sophomore Girl award. In February 2009, she was chosen to be concertmistress of the WMEA (Washigton Music Educators Association) All-State Orchestra.

Also on the Eastside Symphony’s program for June 19 is Prokofiev’s famous musical story “Peter and the Wolf,” with narrator Peter King. King attended Washinton State University and has been previously seen onstage at Carco Theater in “The Rainmaker,” playing Starbuck.

The Eastside Symphony performance will begin with a brass fanfare by Dukas and end with Richard Hayman’s pop favorite, “Hoedown,” all under the direction of music director Alexei Girsh.
