Seniors can apply for affordable rental apartments in Redmond

Construction is well underway on the Providence John Gabriel House, an affordable senior housing project located at 8632 160th Ave. N.E. Applications will be available for prospective residents starting on Oct. 31. Individuals must meet certain income and age qualifications in order to submit an application for housing.

Construction is well underway on the Providence John Gabriel House, an affordable senior housing project located at 8632 160th Ave. N.E. Applications are available for prospective residents. Individuals must meet certain income and age qualifications in order to submit an application for housing.

The development will provide 74 affordable rental apartments for seniors aged 62 and over in downtown Redmond. In addition to the residential use, there will be 8,000 square feet on the first floor for a PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) health and wellness center, also managed by Providence Health & Services which will serve eligible residents of the community.

“This is a model for everyone for putting the elderly right in the middle of this vibrant community,” said Rod Hochman of Providence Health and Services at last year’s groundbreaking.

Redmond Mayor John Marchione welcomes the complex with open arms, noting at the groundbreaking that from young to older, “Redmond can be a place you live your whole life in.”

Marchione added this week: “Providence John Gabriel House will ensure that more seniors will have an affordable place to live near medical, shopping and recreational facilities, as well as the Rapid Ride and other transit lines.”

The building is five levels built over structured below-grade parking. The residential portion will serve seniors with household incomes at or below 60 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). For a one-person household, the maximum allowable income is currently $37,980, and that maximum increases for larger households.

Providence John Gabriel House is expected to open in March 2017. Applications for housing will be available starting after 11 a.m. on Oct. 31 on the Providence Supportive Housing website at www.providencesupportivehousing.org.
