Amadeus combines fiction and history to detail the final years of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The play also focuses on Antonio Salieri, an older composer who, propelled by jealousy, plots the downfall of his rival, Mozart. The play explores the rivalry between Mozart and Salieri, the court composer for the emperor of Austria in the late 18th century. Jealous of Mozart’s genius and resentful of his own mediocrity, Salieri secretly rejects God and vows to destroy his rival’s career.

Winner of a Tony Award for Best Play, the Academy Award for Best Film and triumphant in recent revivals in the West End and on Broadway, this work weaves a confrontation between mediocrity and genius.
