Redmond’s Autumn Recreation Guide was recently mailed, signaling that it is now time to sign up for many of the classes and events. Some new offerings this year include classes in the Redmond Clay Studio and fencing classes for youths, teens and adults.
• The Redmond Clay Studio designs classes for people to explore their innate artistic talents. Instructors guide participants through the necessary skills to comfortably and successfully work with clay, exploring it through hand building or wheel throwing.
• For a much more energetic experience, the Washington Fencing Academy is hosting classes to introduce participants to fencing. This invigorating Olympic sport uses both mind and body to hone focusing skills while increasing fitness.
In addition to the many class offerings, several special events are scheduled for fall.
• On Friday, Oct. 2 from 6:30-8:30pm, the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center will be transformed into a country barn for the Harvest Hoedown, a family dance.
Ron Bolin, the Dancin’ DJ will be on hand to play music and teach simple and fun dances throughout the evening. In addition to dancing, there will Western crafts, games and refreshments.
The Hoedown is for the whole family, ages six and up. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Advance tickets are $10 per person for Redmond residents and $12 for non-residents. Visit the city’s website, www.redmond.gov or call (425) 556-2300.
• Another family-friendly fall activity is the Harvest Celebration Farm Tour on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Farrel-McWhirter Farm, 19545 Redmond Rd.
This free event is part of the King County Harvest Celebration. Activities at Farrel-McWhirter Farm include pioneer days activities, apple pressing, tractor-pulled wagon rides, animal visits, sustainable gardening and more.
