Redmond High School (RHS) Theatre Arts was nominated and accepted to perform as part of The Edinburgh Festival Fringe (commonly known as “The Fringe”) by the American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF).
The trip to Edinburgh is currently slated for August 2011. Students going on the trip will visit parts of Scotland and London, as well as promote a short play twice a day at one of The Fringe’s premier venues.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe started in 1947 when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited to the first Edinburgh International Festival (EIF). Over the years, more performers came to Edinburgh to perform on the outskirts of the EIF and by 1958, the Festival Fringe Society was formed to provide information, a central box office and a published program of all the Fringe shows.
Central to the society’s constitution was the policy that there should be no artistic vetting from the society, which still holds true to this day.
RHS students will begin raising funds and preparing for the trip in the fall of 2009. For more information or to make a donation, contact RHS Drama Boosters at www.redmonddrama.org.
