Breast cancer survivors, their families and friends are invited to the Overlake Safeway Breast Cancer Survivor Day, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The store is located at 15000 NE 24th St. in Redmond.
The Overlake Safeway team will honor people who have fought and survived the battle and remember loved ones who lost their lives to the disease. The event will feature food, music and an opportunity to celebrate with other survivors within the community.
Over the last eight years, Safeway as a company has raised nearly $60 million for breast cancer reserach. In 2008 alone, $18 million was raised for this cause. Funds go toward improving detection and treatment of breast cancer, in the hope that one day, there will be a cure.
Safeway also has made a commitment to helping women prevent breast cancer by purchasing a small fleet of mobile mammogram units called Mammo Vans.
