Redmond Fire mechanics Doug Jones of Renton, dressed as Santa and Brian Barrett of Renton, dressed as Buddy the Elf, cruised around the North Education Hill neighborhood Saturday night in a vintage 1949 GMC fire truck as part of the “Santa in the Neighborhoods” food and toy drive, sponsored by the Redmond Firefighters’ Union.

Jones said the “Santa in the Neighborhoods” food and toy drive, which included a nightly cruise around various Redmond neighborhoods last week, generated more than $500 in cash donations, more than $400 in gifts cards, “a tone of food and lots of toys.”

The union donated $500 to the cause also, Jones said.

The old-time fire truck was the city second fire truck, Jones said, adding that the truck only is used for community events and not used to respond to emergencies. “It just responds to candy canes,” Jones said with a chuckle.
