The Lake Washington School District will host two parent education events in Redmond this month and next month.
The first will be Screen Time and Internet Safety with parent coach Arlene Angle. The event will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Albert Einstein Elementary School, 18025 N.E. 116th St. Angle will address the subject of being overwhelmed and the need for guidance on the amount of time kids spend in front of the screen. She will provide ideas to help parents establish the appropriate amount of screen time for their families, how they can make intentional decisions related to use of screens and related Internet safety. Childcare will be provided.
The second event will be Planning for College Success — How to Prepare Now to Make the College Application Process as Smooth as Possible, with Anne Holmdahl of Common Sense College Counseling. The event will be at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Lake Washington Resource Center, 16250 N.E. 74th St. Parents will learn how to take the stress out of the college application process by having a solid plan for their students. During this interactive presentation, independent college counselor Holmdahl will lead them to a better understanding of how to create a four-year high school academic plan, explain about college admission requirements and how they differ from high school graduation requirements, walk parents through the maze of standardized testing and talk about other things that college admissions offices think are important.
