The Juel Park Community Garden opens May 1 at 18815 NE 116th St. in Redmond.
Registration for the garden plots begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 6 for Redmond residents and at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 13 for non-residents, at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, 16600 NE 80th St. Plots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gardeners may receive up to two 10-by-10-foot garden plots or one 10-by-20-foot garden plot per season. Cost for Redmond residents is $40 per 10-by-10 plot or $50 per 10-by-20 plot.
Non-residents will pay $50 per 10-by-10 plot or $60 per $10-by-20 plot.
Once all plots are assigned, a waiting list will be maintained.
Juel Park Community Garden plot renters are expected to contribute a minimum of eight hours per season to the common areas of the garden during the season, May 1-Oct. 31.
Individual plots must be actively gardened and mulched or covered at the end of the season.
Gardeners can grow any sort of fruit, vegetable, flower or non-spreading herb, using organic gardening practices only.
The City of Redmond Parks and Recreation Department will provide access to Moo Doo, composted farm animal waste from the city’s nearby Farrel-McWhirter Park. A limited number of gardening tools will be available for use and gardeners are expected to be courteous to others.
Dogs are not allowed at the Juel Park Community Garden. Gardeners will be asked, along with any Redmond citizens, to call 911 when witnessing vandalism or theft at this park or anywhere in the city.
