Free entertainment coming to the library

When the heat is on, families with young children can find plenty of action at the City of Redmond’s terrific parks — or cool off at the Redmond Regional Library, 15990 NE 85th St., which has a whole slate of free entertainment planned for the summer.

Tickets can be picked up at the library’s information desk on the following schedule, while supplies last.

• Tickets available starting June 16 for “Rock Out with Recess Monkey” at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23. All ages are welcome for a musical adventure involving fantastic characters.

• Tickets available starting June 26 for “Anansi the Spider” at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, July 3. Presented by Oregon Shadow Theatre and recommended for kids four and older.

• Tickets available starting June 30 for “The Creative Conjuror” at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7. Presented by Jeff Evans, for ages five and older, featuring magic and mayhem.

• Tickets available starting July 6 for “Woody Guthrie Children’s Songs” at 2 p.m. Monday, July 13. Presented by Carl Allen for parents and children.

• Tickets available starting July 16 for “Let’s Create a Clown Show!” at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 23. Presented by Charles the Clown, for ages four and older. Learn to create costumes and magic tricks from everyday objects.

• Tickets available starting July 21 for “The Old-Time Music Show,” at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28. Presented by Rick Meyers, for all ages. Discover how American pioneers made music with folk instruments and household items.

• Tickets available beginning Aug. 1 for “Capa de Cuentos” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. Presented by Los Nietos del Son, for ages three and older. Hear bilingual (English/Spanish) Latin American stories, with live music, history, shadow puppets and costumes.

• Tickets available starting Aug 6 for “Up, Up and Away!” at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13. Presented by Mad Science, for ages four and older. Scientific experiments will explore the principles of air pressure.

• Tickets available starting Aug. 10 for “Whales, Sails, Treasures and Tales at” 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17. Presented by Cyndi Soup and The Thumbs Up Puppets, for all ages. Cyndi and her puppets transform a giant easy chair into a pirate ship.

• Tickets available starting Aug. 21 for “Storytelling with Song” at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28. Presented by Tim Noah, for all ages. This Emmy Award-winning performer combines humor, music and storytelling.

“Rock Out with Recess Monkey,” “Woody Guthrie’s Children’s Songs,” “Let’s Create a Clown Show!,” “The Old-Time Music Show,” “Capa de Cuentos,” and “Up, Up and Away!” are sponsored by the Friends of the Redmond Regional Library.

• Baby Story Times, 10 a.m. Mondays, July 6-Aug. 24, for ages six to 12 months with caregiver.

• Young Toddler Story Times, 10:30 a.m. Thursdays, July 9-Aug. 27, for ages 12 to 24 months with caregiver.

• Toddler Story Times, 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays, July 8-Aug. 26; and 10:15 and 10:45 a.m. Fridays, July 10-Aug. 28, for age two with caregiver.

Last but not least, the library will host Monday Movie Matinees at 2 p.m. July 6, July 20, Aug. 10 and Aug. 24, for ages six and older.
