Redmond’s annual Eastside event Walk to End Alzheimer’s is coming to sidewalks, tracks and trails all over the region this year, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hundreds of local residents are still expected to participate in the Eastside Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Oct. 10, by viewing the local opening ceremony virtually, and then walking with friends or family in a place of their choosing. The event was postponed from early September due to the smoky unsafe air conditions.
Last year the event raised $125,000 for Alzheimer’s Association, a worldwide organization dedicated to support and research for the disease. As of Oct. 8, $81,923 has been raised for 2020, with a goal of $135,000.
Donations this year can help families get through the difficulties of facing Alzheimer’s amid isolation and a pandemic. Anyone who donates or raises over $100 receives a free 2020 event t-shirt.
Registration is free and comes with a welcome kit in the mail. Alzheimer’s Association asks anyone who chooses to walk with those outside your household to follow local health official guidelines.
In addition to the walk, anyone can drive by Marymoor Park for a Promise Garden display honoring all impacted by the disease, 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., next to baseball field No. 8 north of Northeast Marymoor Park Way.
Virtual opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. Registration is available at alz.org/walk and more information on this event can be found here.
