On Friday, local musician Chris Kendziorski, who hails originally from Japan, will be playing two hours of music at SoulFood Books in Redmond, beginning at 8 p.m.
The show will be promoting “Love Hands for Japan,” an organization whose mission is to send love and healing messages to the people directly affected by the earthquake and resulting tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan on March 11, 2011.
As a way to lift the spirits and share love with the affected and displaced Japanese people, those in attendance are invited to grab some pieces of paper, crayons and markers (all provided) and trace their hands along with any message they would like to share.
Hands are a source of healing and calming and these traced hands will be used to send a message that carries the same energy to Japan as a hug or a touch of comfort.
One of the locations the hands will be delivered to is Ootama village, a place that has temporary housing for displaced people.
SoulFood Books has set up a box for customers to place their traced their hands and messages to be sent to Japan.
The show will also be filmed and posted online to be shared with the people in Japan. For a preview of Kendziorski’s music, visit http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB1E98AC856AC4851 or http://www.reverbnation.com/cdkopenmic.
The “Love Hands” are scheduled to be sent to Japan by the end of February to be hand delivered by the anniversary of the earthquake.
