The script, book and music, based on the classic story of “Around the World in 80 Days,” were written by the play’s director, Dan Shelhamer of Studio East, a performing arts school in Kirkland. David Spring, also from Studio East, is the music director for the show.
The production is part of a six-week theatrical outreach program designed to boost children’s communication skills and self-esteem and promote community involvement. Although auditions were conducted to assign parts, any student who wished to participate and turned in registration forms on-time was welcome to join the fun, said the show’s producers, Celine Swanson and Karen Duoos, volunteers from the Rose Hill Elementary PTSA.
Set in modern times, “Around the World in 80 Hours” will feature a variety of colorful characters and music and dance inspired by Africa, Bollywood, Australia, Venezuela and more.
