I can’t be the only person who found sad irony in two Redmond Reporter articles related to LWSD funding in the Dec. 18 issue.
One article detailed Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Superintendent Dr. Chip Kimball’s withdrawal of his request to have Redmond update school impact fees that developers pay. He feels that it wouldn’t be fair to ask developers to increase their share of impact costs during these tough economic times despite the fact that Redmond hasn’t updated these fees since they were first created in 2006.
The other article spoke on the Redmond City Council’s full support of not one but three LWSD funding measures that would add hundreds of dollars to individuals’ annual property taxes.
Taking what I can from these two articles, the Lake Washington School District and City of Redmond officials feel that it’s perfectly okay for developers to continue enjoying paying low impact fees that haven’t been increased since their inception, while individual citizens should have their property taxes jacked up a large amount. Sounds fair to me!
I urge everyone to vote no on all three of the LWSD funding issues in February and send a strong message to LWSD and the City of Redmond. Tell them what you think about individual property owners getting screwed while developers continue their sweet deal.
