Ever since policemen slayings riddled our newspaper headlines I’ve thought about thanking a Redmond police officer in person.
It wasn’t until recently, however, that I acted on that thought.
It was easy. I noticed a police officer enter Qdoba, the restaurant I was dining in. Once I saw an opportune moment, I got up, walked across the room and started up a conversation.
Sure, it felt a little awkward at first — and I’m an outgoing person — but once I saw the officer’s face light up after he heard my remark it was well worth it. I even found out his name and how I could pray for his team.
I’m not sharing this to toot my own horn, but to encourage others in our community to do the same. It just takes a little energy to make a difference in someone’s life.
