Please join the Rosa Parks PTSA Executive Committee, along with Beth Sigall, our Legislative/Advocacy Chair, for the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) budget input meeting at Redmond High School Wednesday, March 24 from 7-9 p.m.
We will be at the meeting to remind LWSD officials of the importance of preserving class size across the district for the 2010-2011 school year. Though everyone will not be able to speak, we will be joining parents from throughout the district in an effort to have our voices heard.
The Rosa Parks PTSA Executive Committee will be wearing our “Got kids?” t-shirts and encourage those attending to wear our school colors of black and purple to show our unity.
We plan on meeting at Rosa Parks Elementary at 6:15 p.m. and will caravan over to Redmond High School.
As Rosa Parks Elementary principal Jeff Newport stated in his March 1 Newport Notes, “the state legislature is currently working on the state budget and indications are that K-12 public education will get even less money next year from the state. Estimates of the budget cuts Lake Washington School District will have to make based on proposals range from $3.6 million to $8.4 million. Cutting that much more from the district budget after last year’s $7.7 million cuts will be difficult.”
The budget cuts could force a mandatory increase in class size resulting in a loss of teachers.
We look forward to your support at this very important input meeting. Your presence and contribution are needed to communicate our message to LWSD officers.
