I want you to know how much I enjoy opening up your newspaper’s “Redmond Opinion” page and finding Jeff Johnson’s editorial cartoon.
I think it’s one of the best features in the Redmond Reporter.
Mr. Johnson’s cartoon art always makes me smile and I always learn something. He has an amazing knack of combining art with the use of just a few words to create a powerful message.
I find Jeff’s cartoon art exceptionally creative. I consider it somewhat similar to a poem that combines words with form and structure to create an impression.
The City of Redmond and Arts Commission have taken great strides to promote and enhance art in our community: Installation art, street art, public works art, outdoor art, Poet Laureate, and even TreeHouse art is in the planning stages!
I hope the Arts Commission will take a second look at Jeff’s cartoon sketchings and consider bringing it into their portfolio.
Yes, Jeff’s sketchings carry an opinion and it gets people talking; just what good art is supposed to do.
Mr. Johnson’s art is a part of our culture. Jeff and his family are longtime Redmond residents, he teaches sketching to school children, and for years he’s played a big part in adding sizzle to the Redmond Reporter.
I hope one day the City will see fit to recognize Jeff Johnson as a local artist and put his work on public display.
Bob Yoder, Redmond
