For the second year in a row, Hancock’s Bakery in Redmond was crowned the food drive champion of Hopelink’s second annual March Can Madness competition.

Hancock’s was one of 30 Eastside businesses to participate in the four-week competition, which resulted in 9,808 pounds of food to boost Hopelink’s food bank supplies. Hancock’s collected 4,589 pounds of food with second place’s A Touch of Class Barbers in Kirkland bringing in 1,400 pounds.

The food drive was patterned after the popular national spring college basketball tournament, matching up businesses in weekly competitions to see which one could bring in the most food. Each week, the winning business in every pairing — or bracket — advanced to the following week. The championship round ended on April 15.

Hopelink is a Redmond-based organization that serves homeless and low income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities. Hopelink’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency for all members of the community.
