Redmond resident Dr. C.R. Anderegg and his dental team have returned from a week in Jamaica, in conjunction with Great Shape! Inc.’s humanitarian project, 1,000 Smiles.

Considered the world’s largest, humanitarian dental project, Anderegg and his staff joined dozens of dental professionals, assistants and volunteers to offer exams, cleanings, sealants and extractions. In rural Jamaica, there is just one dentist for every 80,000 people.

“There is a huge need in Jamaica for dental care,” said Anderegg, who was featured in the Sept. 4, 2009 edition of the Redmond Reporter. “Relieving someone’s pain and making them healthier is a great way for us to use our skills to help.”

This year, Great Shape! and dentists such as Anderegg have provided 827 cleanings, 1,148 fillings and 1,750 extractions in the first week.
