The tequila has arrived.
That’s right, 240 bottles of it — and the oak barrel — from Amatitan, Jalisco, Mexico.
On Thursday, Agave Cocina of Redmond and Issaquah debuted its unique, limited-edition tequila made only for the local restaurants by the Casa Herradura distillery.
According to the Agave blog, Issaquah owner Federico Ramos and his tequila tasters traveled to Mexico in March to select the right barrel of the liquor for the local restaurants, co-owned by his brother Julian and sister Faviola.
The local tequila team chose one reposado of three poured for them to be recasked especially for Agave. The new tequila reflects Agave’s taste and spirit, the blog notes.
“It has a very, very light caramel aftertaste when you drink it,” Julian, the Redmond Agave owner, told the Reporter. When he and the team sampled the tequila, “That one happened to just hit it out of the park, according to our preferences.”
In production since 1870, Casa Herradura is one of the oldest producers of tequila. It is located in the heart of Mexico’s tequila region and crafts 100 percent blue agave tequila using traditional methods.
The Ramos family has its origins in Jalisco and has owned restaurants on the Eastside for many years. Agave will be one of the few restaurants in the area to have its own tequila. Each location stocks almost 150 different tequilas and mescals.
“It’s an achievement, for sure,” Julian said about Agave serving its specialty tequila. “It’s also an honor for us to be invited (for tastings) and selected by such a well-known brand.”
The Redmond Agave will be hosting a three-course meal with tequila pairings from 5-8 p.m. on Aug. 22.
Ambassadors from Casa Herradura will be present at the event, educating people about tequila and answering any questions.
