Seattle-based TIPS (Teens In Public Service) has placed more than 50 teens, including four from Redmond, in paid, cause-related internships throughout the Puget Sound region this summer.

The King County Road Services Division will close a section of Northeast 133rd Street east of Redmond in July for an extensive five-week repair project.
An aging culvert underneath the roadway is failing and must be replaced. Starting Tuesday, July 6, the county will close Northeast 133rd Street at 198th Avenue Northeast. The work is expected to be completed by Aug. 12.

It’s official: String Jam ’10 set the world record for the largest string ensemble.
Back on April 10, nearly four hundred string musicians from around the region gathered at the Juanita High School Field House in Kirkland to attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest string ensemble under one roof. In compliance with the stringent requirements set by Guinness World Records™, the event was videotaped, documented, and monitored by over twenty designated observers who were posted throughout the performance area.
Today, staff from Guinness World Records awarded String Jam ’10 formal certification that the event had indeed set the world record for largest string ensemble.

The summer video campaign kicks off Thursday, June 10, 2010. The arrival of warm, drier weather signals the start of road maintenance season in Redmond. Significant asphalt resurfacing work is currently underway along 156th Avenue Northeast between Bel-Red Road and Northeast 51st Street and is scheduled to last up to two weeks, weather permitting. Motorists should allow for extra time when traveling through this area.

The following corridors in Northeast Redmond will experience significant traffic changes throughout the summer:
• Northeast 116th Street between 167th Place and 172nd Avenue Northeast will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, June 22. This project will reconstruct Northeast 116th to meet site distance and safety standards in advance of construction of Fire Station 17.
Preliminary work is scheduled to begin this week and the closure is expected to last through early September. Local access for emergency vehicles and to properties in the construction zone will be maintained. Detour routes will be clearly marked.
• The intersection of Northeast 124th Street and SR 202 (Redmond-Woodinville Road) will undergo numerous improvements including the addition of two through lanes on the east leg, extensions of curbs, gutters and sidewalks, as well as installation of a right turn lane onto northbound SR 202.
This work will require the temporary closure of up to two westbound lanes and signal modification to accommodate traffic flow. Exact dates for construction impacts will be posted on the city’s Web site, www.redmond.gov, Redmond City Television and Redmond Community radio, AM 1650.

The wildly popular “Top Chef” tour bus made its first-ever stop in the Northwest last weekend — and one of the stops was in Redmond. Season 6 contestant Ash Fulk (pictured), along with and Eli Kirshtein (not pictured) offered cooking tips, answered fan questions and prepared some of their favorite dishes. Fans got a chance to sample the chefs’ food, play “Top Chef” games, win prizes, get chef’testant autographs, and take photos at the Judges’ Table.
On Wednesday, June 16, Whole Foods Market at 17991 Redmond Way in Redmond will partner with the Sno-Valley Tilth Association, a non-profit organization that supports organic and sustainable food production practices throughout the Snoqualmie and Snohomish watersheds.
