We are writing because of the overstated comments in regards to the proposal for the Redmond Bike Park.
This 2.51-acre site has an area approximately 0.7 acres on the west edge that has been used by cyclists since 1990. According to the proposed 2.51-acre project by the Redmond Parks and Recreation Department, the affected area would be 0.7 acres. This is not six times larger, as stated in the letter to the editor in last week’s Redmond Reporter.
When final plans for the Redmond Bike Park were posted in June 2011, the neighbors were shocked.
The proposed plan is huge in comparison to the existing jumps. We have significant concerns about traffic and parking, as well as noise. Right now I can hear the voices of the riders from my back yard at least 100 yards away. These shouts blend in with the noises of our neighborhood and are rarely a nuisance. There are yells of encouragement and excitement, including expletives you would imagine any teenager might yell after successfully clearing a jump or maybe crashing.
We risk our lives crossing the street. But six deer have been hit since 1999 and that warrants a $6 million concrete overpass for the critters.
It’s insane.
What an embarrassment. It was so shameful.
Is there any way to solve this sort of violent crime so not to destroy the freedom of others?
