Bear Creek defeated Tacoma Baptist, 25-9, 25-6, 25-9, in a 2B Sea-Tac League volleyball match on Monday behind Michele Brown’s 19 assists and four aces and Makena Schoene’s 12 kills and seven aces. Gracie Matthews added six aces and Morgan Cadigan had six kills, four aces and five digs.

Property tax contributes 8 percent to the revenues of Mayor Marchione’s proposed 2013-2014 budget. The mayor is asking City Council to approve an additional 1 percent property tax increase over the next two-year biennium. This tax is inflammatory to the largest growing demographic group of citizens in Redmond — the over-60 bunch. The City Council should not approve this tax increase.

A man in his mid-20s was found unconscious this morning in a wooded area behind the Bear Creek Safeway in the 17200 block of Redmond Way, according to Redmond Police Department Lt. Charlie Gorman.
A passerby found the body and called 911 at 9:35 a.m. Police and medics arrived on the scene soon after and pronounced the man dead, Gorman said.
Based on the feedback received from Rosa Parks Elementary School parents at a Sept. 27 meeting, Lake Washington School District Superintendent Traci Pierce has decided to move forward with the 2013-14 temporary boundary option for the school, which is 11 percent over capacity at 793 students. The temporary boundary will move some students to another school for the next three years.
At the Oct. 2 Kirkland City Council meeting, SummerFest co-chairs Rob Butcher and Michelle Sailor presented the Lake Washington Schools Foundation Executive Director LeeAnn Wood with a $4,250 check to help support academic excellence and success for all Lake Washington students. Donations to the foundation go toward innovative classroom programs, the school district’s LINKS mentoring program and helping low-income students purchase school necessities.
King County Elections will mail more than 1.16 million ballots to voters via the U.S. Postal Service today. Ballots will arrive soon in mailboxes throughout King County. The county already sent about 15,000 ballots to voters living overseas and those serving in the military to allow extra time for delivery.
