With the Overlake girls' soccer team's 3-1 Tri-District tournament win over Lynden Christian Tuesday night, they have secured a berth into the 1A state tournament which gets underway on Nov. 9.

With the Overlake girls’ soccer team’s 3-1 Tri-District tournament win over Lynden Christian Tuesday night, they have secured a berth into the 1A state tournament which gets underway on Nov. 9.

In the victory, junior forward Adrianna Gildner got things started with a goal in the 17th minute, and in the second half junior defender Kelsey D’Ewart booted in a penalty kick to make it 2-0.

In the 66th minute, Katie Hill volleyed a corner kick by Gildner to put the game away, with Lynden Christian scoring just before time expired.

The Owls were benefited by great saves by freshman goalkeeper Catherine Cunningham, and also shutting down superstar midfielder Coryn Bajema, who had scored 32 goals on the year heading into the game.

The Owls next play on Thursday in a seeding game at King’s High School at 5 p.m. against University Prep.

 

Owl volleyball falls to No. 8 Cedar Park in ECL finals

Advancing to the Emerald City League Tournament championship match with wins over Forest Ridge and Annie Wright, the Owls were outmatched by the eighth-ranked Cedar Park Christian Eagles on Tuesday night, getting swept 3-0.

Game scores were 25-16, 25-17, 25-16.

For Overlake, Kirsten Parris led with eight kills. Eagles’ seniors Mattie Shelford and Lyndsay Palmer did most of the damage for their team, slamming 14 and 10 kills, respectively.

With the loss, Overlake dropped to 13-7 on the season and will take the No. 2 seed into the Tri-District tournament, which gets underway on Thursday. The Owls will play the winner of Annie Wright and Nooksack Valley on Nov. 3 at home, game time at 7 p.m.
