The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) board of directors is extending the timeline on its superintendent search as a result of last week’s snow, ice and wind storms, according to community relations and communications coordinator Shannon Parthemer.
Trustees could have made a hiring decision as early as next week’s board meeting on Jan. 30, but the inclement weather caused district officials to postpone three meet-and-greet events at the LWSD Resource Center in Redmond, along with two others in Kirkland and Sammamish with preferred superintendent candidate Dr. Traci Pierce.
Instead, Parthemer said the board will use Monday’s meeting to figure out the next steps in naming a new Lake Washington schools leader.
“They’ll be deciding when they’ll decide (on hiring a new superintendent),” she said.
A meet-and-greet event was held at Redmond City Hall on Jan. 10, but the remaining three scheduled for last week were postponed because of the weather. These events are an opportunity for the public to meet Pierce in an informal setting and provide feedback for the board.
In addition, the community can give their input by filling out comment cards at the events or online through the LWSD’s website at lwsd.org. Parthemer said the deadline for online comments, originally Jan. 22, has been extended to an undetermined date as not all of the three remaining meet and greets have been rescheduled.
The event at the LWSD Resource Center will be today (Jan. 25) and the Sammamish event will be on Feb. 7, but Parthemer said the district is still working on rescheduling the Kirkland meet and greet.
The new schedule for LWSD’s meet-and-greet events with superintendent candidate, Dr. Traci Pierce is as follows:
• Wednesday (today) from 3-5 p.m. at the LWSD Resource Center, located at 16250 NE 74th St. in Redmond.
• Feb. 7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Sammamish City Hall, located at 801 228th Ave. S.E. in Sammamish.
• The third meeting at Kirkland City Hall, located at 123 Fifth Ave. in Kirkland, will also be rescheduled, but the date and time have not been decided.
