State income tax is the wrong way to go

I writing in reference to Andrew Villeneuve's June 4 column, "Time for real tax reform: Vote yes on Initiative 1098." Our government is a representative democracy for one important reason: we don't want the majority to set rules on a minority of citizens.

I writing in reference to Andrew Villeneuve’s June 4 column, “Time for real tax reform: Vote yes on Initiative 1098.” Our government is a representative democracy for one important reason: we don’t want the majority to set rules on a minority of citizens.

Civil rights, abortion laws, and other progressive ideas all came about because our government made the decision to protect the minority. The logical conclusion of initiatives like this? That 49 percent of the populace pays the majority of their income in taxes. Is that what we want?
