A Redmond police officer shot and wounded a man wielding a knife early Saturday morning in the 8200 block of 149th Way Northeast.

The officer, who has been with the Redmond police department for two years, was placed on paid leave while the shooting is reviewed. The King County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation.

The 27-year-old officer was responding to a noise complaint at 12:41 a.m. at the residence, according to Redmond police. The officer arrived right after a fight, involving a knife, occurred at the Scarborough Townhomes. The officer tried to arrest the man with the knife, but the man did not cooperate and allegedly threatened the officer, who then shot the knife-wielding man.

Redmond police and the County Sheriff’s Office have not released how many times the man was shot, nor where he was hit. The man, a 27-year-old Redmond resident, was treated at the scene before being taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The man is in stable condition, according to Sergeant John Urquhart, media relations officer for the Sheriff’s office. Both the name of the officer and the man who was shot have not been released. Urquhart said more information will be released as early as Wednesday, June 11 after the Sheriff’s office reviews the facts and interviews witnesses.
