Serious Play Conference at DigiPen slated for Aug. 23-25

From Tuesday to Thursday, educators, digital publishers and seasoned developers will assess the value of games designed for the school and at-home learning environments, give guidance on setting realistic learning objectives for games and offer tips on lessons learned at the Serious Play Conference.

The conference will be at the DigiPen Institute of Technology at 9931 Willows Rd. N.E. in Redmond.

On Thursday, David Samuelson, executive vice president of games and augmented reality for Pearson PLC, will lead a plenary session exploring the topic of assessment.

Panelists will include Alex Games, education design director at Microsoft; Patti Phillips, president of ROI Institute, Inc. and chair and CEO of The Chelsea Group, Inc.; Zoran Popovic, associate professor of Computer Science, at the University of Washington; James Portnow, CEO of Rainmaker Games; and Jon S. Twing, EVP and chief measurement officer for the assessment and information division at Pearson.

The Games for School/At Home Learning track will also feature an impressive set of session speakers including Joan Mazur, professor at the University of Kentucky; Ted Henning, associate faculty at National University; Susan Meek, education strategist at Breakway Ltd.; Thomas Vaidhyan, CEO at Aten Intelligent Educational Systems, Inc.; Michael Golden, CEO and founding partner at Educurious; Art Graesser, professor in psychology and adjunct professor in computer science and co-director of the Institute of Intelligent Systems at The University of Memphis; and Scot Osterweil, research director of comparative media studies/MIT and creative director at Learning Games Network.
