Carl Barnes’ last-minute goal lifted Garfield past Overlake, 12-11, in a Division II boys’ lacrosse state quarterfinal Saturday at the Overlake School in Redmond.

The Owls trailed 11-9 in the fourth quarter before they scored two straight goals to tied the game. Frost Cunningham’s fourth goal of the game evened the score at 11 with 5 minutes left in the game.

Barnes scored his third goal of the game with 1:03 left to give Garfield a 12-11 lead.

Overlake tried to the tie the game with seconds left as Barret Jenness cut in front of the cage, but the ball ricocheted off his stick as time expired.

Jenness finished the game with two goals for the Owls, who finished the season 12-2.
