Rotary Club of Redmond names Sophia Xu and Bailey Jenks students of the month

Rotary Club of Redmond has named Redmond High School (RHS) students Sophia Xu and Bailey Jenks as the Senior and Junior Students of the Month, respectively, for April.

Rotary Club of Redmond has named Redmond High School (RHS) students Sophia Xu and Bailey Jenks as the Senior and Junior Students of the Month, respectively, for April.

Jenks attended the last rotary meeting, when club President Steve Bozick presented her with a plaque.

The junior is active as captain of the school dance team, which won a national academic achievement award. She is a member of the National Honor Society, enjoys math and science and is interested in stem cell research. According to the committee, Jenks has excellent writing skills and her dream job is writing for National Geographic magazine. She volunteers at Woodinville Library and participates in annual fund drives to support a children’s hospital.

Xu is president of the RHS math club and has participated in a summer research in microbiology program at Stony Brook University. She is active in tennis and Chinese painting and is planning a career in computational biology. She has been admitted to California Institute of Technology, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and now must choose between them.

The Student of the Month program is one of several ways that Redmond Rotary supports vocational development of young people.
