The City of Redmond has released its fifth annual Redmond Community Indicators report.

The report describes Redmond’s progress towards achieving its community vision as well as actions the City is taking to implement its Comprehensive Plan.

During 2009, the city continued to plan for and invest in its two urban centers of Downtown and Overlake, where Redmond expects to accommodate much of its planned growth.

In Downtown, the Bear Creek Parkway extension opened for traffic and the City selected a site for the Downtown Central Park. In Overlake, planning continues for future parks, stormwater management, transportation improvements and other facilities and services needed to serve a developing urban village.

The past year was economically challenging, reflected both in a decrease in sales tax receipts as well as higher reported commercial vacancy rates. On the other hand, Redmond gained jobs in 2008 (latest year available).

The City of Redmond publishes Redmond Community Indicators annually so the community and its elected officials can assess the effectiveness of city policies in helping to achieve the community’s long-term goals, as well as monitor Comprehensive Plan implementation.
