After attending the Redmond City Council Public Safety Committee meeting on Tuesday, the reality behind the red-light camera program is starting to become very clear.
• Redmond residents and visitors were sent “infraction notices” during March and April, demanding they pay more than a half of a million in extra “fines.”
• There has been zero change in the number of accidents occurring during that period inside the intersections where red light cameras are installed (the type that the program is supposed to stop — three this year vs. three last year).
Remind me again what was the overall purpose of the red-light camera program if it wasn’t to improve road safety by reducing accidents?
