Head-on collision closes down East Lake Sammamish Parkway; Sammamish woman rushed to hosptial

Redmond Police closed down East Lake Sammamish Parkway around 3 p.m. on Tuesday for about 90 minutes after a head-on traffic collision involving a sports utility vehicle and a truck.

A 40-year-old Sammmaish woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was rushed to Harboview Medical Center in Seattle with injuries to her head, according to Redmond Police spokesperson Jim Bove.

Bove said the woman was in critical condition as of Tuesday night and was moved to the intensive care unit on Wednesday.

The Sammamish woman was driving her Land Rover northbound in the 6400 block of East Lake Sammamish Parkway and swerved into the southbound lane, hitting a truck, with a woman driver and her daughter as a passenger. The driver of the truck and her daughter “did not sustain major injuries,” Bove said.

The cause of collision is still under investigation, however, speed and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, Bove said.

“The important message in this one is that the driver rushed to the hospital was not wearing her seatbelt, which may have prevented serious injuries,” Bove said.
