Real-life ‘horse whisperer’ to appear at Raven Rock Ranch event

Raven Rock Ranch of Redmond's "From Victim to Victor" event will feature film star Buck Brannaman, a real-life “horse whisperer,” at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Redmond Marriott Town Center.

Raven Rock Ranch of Redmond’s “From Victim to Victor” event will feature film star Buck Brannaman, a real-life “horse whisperer,” at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Redmond Marriott Town Center.

According to a Raven Rock press release, “Brannaman’s life work with horses eschews the violence that has long been associated with cowboys, but his life lessons translate to the violence that is in our culture, especially toward children. Buck’s world-renowned ability to transform the horse using respect and kindness teaches a lesson on how we need to treat and heal others.”

His training methods were highlighted in the film “The Horse Whisperer” and his story was told in the documentary, “Buck,” which was a selection for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and shortlisted for an Oscar.

At the event, Brannaman will be addressing a group of children who participate at Raven Rock Ranch, a 501 (C) (3) charity in the Redmond area that rescues horses and recovers at-risk kids.

“Many Raven Rock Ranch children are in the foster/adoption system. Buck will share his own experiences as an abused boy who ended up in foster care, but who overcame his trauma as a child to become successful and famous, all with the help of horses,” the press release reads.

This event is open to the public. For more information and to register, visit http://www.ravenrockranch.org
