Redmond was hit with another rash of vehicle prowls with 17 break-ins reported between the night of Nov. 17 and Monday afternoon.

There were eight vehicle prowls on Education Hill, five in Overlake, and two each in the Grasslawn neighborhood and downtown.

Of those 17 reports, 13 were “smash and grabs” where a window was broken and items were stolen from inside the vehicle, according to police spokesman Jim Bove. Three of the vehicles were unlocked and one vehicle had its door lock punched, Bove said.

The stolen items included a $400 makeup pouch with an additional $400 worth of makeup in it, DVD players, sunglasses, laptops, radar detector, five wallets/purses, two bags, five GPS devices, four cell phones and three iPods.

Just last month, the city was hit hard with a string of prowls with 17 coming into police over a three-day period.

Despite the recent rash of prowls, the number of vehicle break-ins this year compared to last year is down, according to Bove. There have 376 prowls through October of this year, compared to 488 from January to October of last year.
