On Tuesday, June 19, I received a political “poll” call from Mountain West Research.
It began as a regular poll, then began asking questions which started out as merely insulting to candidate Cyrus Habib, then became viciously racist. The questioner flatly stated that because Mr. Habib is Iranian American, his candidacy is being funded by Middle East interests and then said that he would put these interests before the well-being of the people of Washington state.
When I expressed my disgust at the question and pushed for proof of the charges, as well as information on who was funding the “poll,” the questioner refused to tell me anything.
Upon Googling Mountain West Research, I learned that the company has previously been fined tens of thousands of dollars for performing push-polls of this type under the guise of legitimate polling.
My question for the Republican Hank Myers, who is running against Mr. Habib: Are you aware that this type of slanderous and racist polling is being performed on your behalf? Do you know who is funding it? Do you approve of it? And if not, what are you doing to stop it?
