The Overlake girls’ soccer team won its season opener against Forest Ridge last Tuesday by a score of 2-0 in a nonleague contest at Forest Ridge.
Senior co-captain Alex Boit scored the first goal in the 36th minute on a long-range shot, and sophomore Emily Kelly scored the second goal on a penalty kick in minute 55 of the match.
Junior Ceci Votta recorded the shutout as she will try to top last year’s performance of nine shutouts for the season.
Volleyball: Grizzlies win
The Bear Creek defeated Puget Sound Adventist on Tuesday in a nonleague season opener, 3-1, at Bear Creek.
After dropping the first game, 25-23, in the first game, the Grizzlies stormed back to win 25-11, 25-11 and 25-19 to take the match.
Senior offensive all-state player Katie Wolfram contributed in a big way with four aces, nine digs and 14 kills, while sophomore Erica Leuenberger was credited with 16 assists. Setter Emily Kedeg had 11 assists for the Grizzlies.
Volleyball: Cedar Park tops Overlake
Cedar Park beat The Overlake School, 3-0, in a Class 1A Emerald City League opener on Tuesday.
Juniors Lauren Ambielli and Claire Bazely combined for five kills during the match and junior setter Alex Weaver contributed with three assists.
