Redmond resident Kevin Guevara was arrested for possession of child pornography.
According to the charging documents, the 21 year old was charged with three counts of possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct — each in the first degree.
As previously reported, Redmond Police Investigations, Pro-Act and patrol units served a search warrant and took custody of Guevara at about 9 a.m. on Jan. 28 at a residence in the 15800 block of Northeast 111th Street in Redmond, which is less than a block away from Norman Rockwell Elementary School.
Janessa Rosick, public information coordinator for the Redmond Police Department (RPD), said investigators are currently working on a forensic analysis of the electronics they recovered from his residence.
When served with the warrant, Guevara confessed to distribution of child pornography and is currently in King County Jail with bail set at $100,000 and a no-contact order with all minors, without exception.
Charging documents state that between Aug. 10, 2014 and Jan. 28, Guevara “did knowingly possess visual or printed matter depicting a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.” The documents continue, reading that Guevara possessed “several hundred gigabytes” of images, which were recently uploaded to his Microsoft OneDrive accounts. In addition, the suspect admitted to law enforcement his sexual attraction to children and possessed journals containing his fantasies about abusing children.
“The journals were taken into evidence and are quite graphic in nature and incredibly concerning,” charging documents state.
It was also stated in court documents that Guevara possessed narcotics when he was arrested, causing further concern “with respect to the risk he poses to children in light of his sexual interest and ability to control his actions towards them when under the influence.”
Documents state that the RPD was first made aware of Guevara’s activities when a detective from the Kirkland Police Department (KPD) contacted a detective in Redmond. The KPD detective had received information from the Seattle Police Department’s (SPD) Internet Crimes Against Children task force after Microsoft OneDrive had reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that 62 files containing depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct were uploaded on Aug. 10, 2014 in the span of 30 minutes. Microsoft also provided the KPD detective with an email address and user name that were tied to Guevara’s residence in Redmond, which prompted the detective to contact RPD on Dec. 10, 2014.
According to a report from the RPD detective, Guevara’s OneDrive account contained about 2,816 image files and 1,541 video files — half of which were of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Once he was taken into custody, Guevara informed police that he knew downloading and sharing child pornography was illegal “but kept downloading and sharing the images using various email addresses,” according to the detective’s report. Guevara also admitted that there were pictures on his cell phone, which was confiscated by police during his arrest. The detective’s report stated that Guevara also told police that they would find images on “several other hard drives and flash drives located in his bedroom area of the residence.”
Guevara’s arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 12.
