The Pink Pumas, a team of moms from the Redmond Ridge neighborhood, will hold a giant rummage sale to fight breast cancer, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, May 1. The sale will take place in the gym at Rosa Parks Elementary School, 22845 NE Cedar Park Crescent.

Expect to find furniture, sporting goods, outdoor items, clothes and more at the sale, as well as a raffle. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day event.

Pink Pumas spokesperson Deb Knaus described the fundraiser as “a true community event,” with contributions of sale items from many neighbors and teachers from Rosa Parks, Evergreen Junior High and The Goddard School. In addition, Rosa Parks custodian Mike Keefer is donating his services that day so that the sale can be held inside the school.

Several businesses from the Marketplace at Redmond Ridge have also pitched in. KUMON Learning Center, Loyal Companion Animal Care and Himitsu Teriyaki gave cash donations. Thrive Fitness offered raffle items and the QFC on Novelty Hill Road contributed raffle items, allowed the Pink Pumas to fundraise outside the store and will provide doughnuts at the rummage sale. Duke of All Trades contributed both cash and raffle items.

The Pink Pumas first participated in the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk back in 2008, raising $7,500. A former team member and breast cancer survivor has since moved to Wisconsin but is coming back to Redmond to be part of this year’s 3-Day Walk, Sept. 24-26. Knaus’ sister is also traveling from California to walk with the team.

It’s a 60-mile walk, about 20 miles per day, but the ladies said it’s really no sweat because it changes so many lives in so many ways.
