Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, Heathman Hotel and Penterra Spa have started Weekend Wellness seminars. The programs will bring the latest medical information and health tips to the public in the luxurious setting of downtown Kirkland’s Heathman Hotel, 220 Kirkland Ave.
The first program, which runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, focuses on breast health. Michael Hunter, MD will be the guest speaker.
Dr. Hunter is the medical director of the Evergreen Hospital cancer program. Beloved by patients and families for his caring and personal attention, he has been voted a top doctor in every Seattle area magazine survey. Dr. Hunter serves many boards including the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Washington State Breast and Cervical Health Project and Cierra Sisters.
He will discuss the latest technique in cancer treatment, radiation gating. It focuses radiation on the target site and spares healthy tissue. This is particularly useful for tumors near the heart and lungs.
Evergreen’s new mobile digital mammography coach will be on site and open for tours. The $35 ticket includes refreshments and lunch. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the hospital’s breast cancer uncompensated care fund.
Reservations are required and seating is limited. To register, call the Evergreen Healthline at (425) 899-3000 or go to www.evergreenhealthcare.org/classes. Guests are encouraged to wear pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
