New Poet’s Society Executive Director Rick Smith received a check for $2,000 and Together Center’s Executive Director Pam Mauk received a check for $1,500 to further their respective efforts.

New Poet’s Society encourages students to continue their expressions of creativity by making scholarship awards to participants in poetry contests and by working with schools to help students be better writers. Poetry contest winners for 2011 also had opportunities to share their poems at open mic readings and other venues. Winners of the 2012 contest will be announced in the national poetry month of April.

One of the first multi-tenant nonprofit centers in the nation, the Together Center creates access to human services so people can find help when they need it. Tens of thousands of people from throughout East King County receive help each year from 18 essential agencies and other critical resources at the one-stop campus. The grant to Together Center will support the center’s Front Door Services project to increase one-on-one help and referral tools available to those seeking help at Together Center.
