Redmond’s Old Fire House Teen Center (OFH) is calling all aspiring young musicians to enter the fourth annual OFH Classic Rockathon. The competition is open to young people between the ages of 13 and 19 who are solo artists or bands that strive to keep the classic rock spirit alive. All genres of music are welcome.
Finalists will play their favorite classic rock songs live on stage, be heard by local music industry professionals and have the chance to win prizes. Prizes this year include recording time in the OFH media lab recording studio, gear and gift certificates.
Application packets are available at the Old Fire House Teen Center, 16510 NE 79th St. in downtown Redmond or online at www.theoldfirehouse.org. The deadline to turn in applications is 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 24.
All proceeds from the Rockathon will benefit the OFH, which was established in 1992 to provide innovative and progressive recreational, educational and social services to all Redmond area youth.
This year’s Rockathon will be produced by three students chosen to co-produce the show in order to gain experience in music event production and management.
“Our definition of classic rock includes music up to 1995. We hope to see Grunge featured in performances this year as it was a significant time for music in the Seattle area,” commented teen producer Nzynga Hendricks.
“The last three years of the Rockathon have been amazing and 2010 will be no exception. I expect to see a lot of great talent,” added Chris Cullen, teen center program coordinator.
This year’s Rockathon sponsors include Guitar Center, Emerald City Guitars, Seattle Drum School, Pacific Music and City of Redmond.
