Three teams have advanced to the next round of Hopelink’s Can Madness competitive food drive to help stock the agency’s five food banks:
Hancock’s Bakery, Redmond
Precision Electric Group, Inc., Redmond
Guild Mortgage, Kirkland
During the third week of the competition, defending champion Hancock’s Bakery ousted Lil’ People’s World of Kirkland, while Guild Mortgage Kirkland knocked off Lake Washington Physical Therapy. In the tightest race of the week, Precision Electric Group., Inc. narrowly defeated Magellen Architects.
This week, the two teams with the best competitive scores will advance to the final round, with the winner to be named April 5.
The six teams competing in Week III of the competition brought in more than 3,700 pounds in donations, bringing the total so far to more than 10,000 pounds of food. The drive is patterned after the famous national spring college basketball tournament, matching businesses in weekly competitions to see which one can bring in the most food.
Each week, the winning business in every bracket will advance to the following week. To ensure that businesses of all sizes are able to compete on a level playing field, the competition uses a unique scoring system: the total pounds of food donated by a business are divided by the total number of employees, resulting in a competitive “score.”
