LWSD students place at North Puget Sound Regional History Day competition

Students from Evergreen Junior High (EJH), International Community School (ICS), Rose Hill Junior High (RHJH), Redmond Junior High (RJH) and Redmond High (RHS) schools participated in the North Puget Sound Regional History Day competition on March 21 and will advance to the state competition held May 5 at Bellevue College.

Students from Evergreen Junior High (EJH), International Community School (ICS), Rose Hill Junior High (RHJH), Redmond Junior High (RJH) and Redmond High (RHS) schools participated in the North Puget Sound Regional History Day competition on March 21 and will advance to the state competition held May 5 at Bellevue College.

Students competed at either the junior (6th through 8th grades) or senior (9th through 12th grades) level in the following categories: exhibits, papers, multi-media documentaries, original performances and websites. This year’s theme was “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.”

The following are students from Redmond who competed and placed in the competition:

  • Junior Individual Website: First place, Kate Belokrylova (ICS) – “An Educated Step: Napoleonic Reform of Schools in Post-revolutionary France.”
  • Junior Group Website: Second place, Grace Wang and partner Abigail Orler (ICS) – “Earth Day 1970: Environmentalists React to Industrial Crisis.”
  • Junior Group Exhibit: First place, Celine Francois and Samantha Frankum (ICS) – “We Can Do It: Labor Reform in Oregon Canneries 1913.”
  • Senior Group Documentary: Third place, Jessica Jin, Nathan Maris and partners Maxwell Schrempp, Ceri Riley (ICS) – “The NCCC Fights for Washington’s Mountains: An Environmental Revolution.”
  • Senior Individual Performance: Third place, J.D. Laurence-Chasen (ICS) – “The Devil’s Music: America’s Reaction to the Rock n’ Roll Revolution.”
  • Senior Group Performance: First place, Aishwarya Nirmal and parnter Rachel Roberts (ICS) – “Liberty and Justice for All: Gideon v. Wainwright’s Revolution in Courtroom.”
  • Third place: Jessica Loksh and Emma Shipman (RHJH) – “Hanakotoba: The Revolution that Gripped the Planet.”
  • Senior Group Exhibit: Second place, Melissa Messett, Emily Nuri and Anna Tole and partners Victoria Baca and Megumi Tamai (RHJH) – “Tuskegee Airmen: Flying for Equality, Sparking a Revolution.”
  • Senior Individual Website: Second place, Katie Brandao (RHJH) – “Let’s Get to Work: The Revolution, Reaction and Reform Jobs for Women During World War II.”
  • Senior Group Website: First place, Jessica Newton and partners Maile Allan, Helen Simecek, Maeve O’Connor (RHJH) – “The Miracle Drug: The Revolution, Reaction and Reform of Penicillin.”
  • Second place: Jason Lee and partner Adarsh Mital (ICS) – “The Green Revolution: Advancing Food Security.”
