The stolen moving truck from Overlake Christian Church in late July has been found and returned to the Redmond church, located at 9900 Willows Rd. NE.

The good news is that the rented moving truck still contained some church-owned items, including chairs, refrigerators, coolers, tables and stage flooring.

The bad news is the initial estimates of the missing items, which includes sound and media equipment, tools, kitchen equipment, barbecues, large tents and other camping supplies, could reach more than $20,000, according to Overlake communication director Kevin Vander Weide.

“The stuff that we were able to retrieve we are very glad to have back as that means that we won’t have to replace it,” said Scott Noon, Overlake facilities director. “Several items of the things that were taken have been replaced with the exception of the media equipment and the large tents.”

The 2006 white Penske Freightliner box truck, which was stolen the night of July 28, was found last Thursday in Burien by the King County Sheriff’s Office and returned to the church for unloading Monday morning, said Vander Weide, who added that the truck has been returned to Penske.

Overlake rented the truck, which was packed with camping gear, audio equipment, chairs, refrigerators and kitchen supplies in preparation for the church’s annual junior high camp at Wenatchee’s Confluence State Park on the Columbia River — involving some 250 students. After some quick shopping and borrowing on July 29, necessary items were replaced and the camp was held as planned July 30-Aug. 3.
