Mustangs win sixth straight district title

Redmond senior Kara Zitzman won the girls’ 4A Kingco district medalist title on Tuesday at Snohomish Golf Course in dramatic fashion, defeating teammate Sydney Conway and Dana Mydland of Eastlake with a birdie on the first playoff hole. All three girls were tied with 7-over 79s after 18 holes. Redmond ran away with the team title with 181 points with cumulative stroke totals of 417 on Tuesday and 420 on Wednesday, enough to finish ahead of Eastlake (139 points). The Mustangs clinched the Kingco title for the sixth consecutive year.

On Wednesday, Zitzman shot an even-par 72 to finish with a two-day total of 151. Zitzman’s performance was the tournament’s second-best all-time score behind Bothell’s Darcy Richmond, who now competes for the University of Washington.

Redmond will be sending a total of six athletes— five placers and one alternate — to the Class 4A state tournamnet, which will be at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco May 26-28.
