To mark its 50th anniversary, Overlake Hospital Medical Center is hosting its biggest-ever Eastside Vitality Community Health Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, on the Overlake hospital campus at 1035 116th Ave. NE in Bellevue. The event is free and offers a wide range of activities for kids and adults.
Attendees can receive a variety of free health screenings including bone density screenings (must be 40 years or older), cholesterol and diabetes tests, blood pressure checks, stroke screenings and skin cancer checks.
In addition, 45-minute health seminars will be offered including:
• 10:30 a.m. – A Look Back and A Look Forward: Changes in cancer prevention and treatment, featuring Overlake breast surgeon Richard Clarfeld, M.D., Overlake oncologist Tanya Wahl, M.D. and moderator Michelle Millman, KIRO 7 anchor/ reporter and breast cancer survivor.
• Noon – Dining Through the Decades: KOMO-4 Problem Solver Herb Weisbaum and KOMO Newsradio personality John Carlson sample favorite dishes from the last 50 years. Moderated by Overlake nutritionist Peggy Swistak, R.D.
• 1:30 p.m. – Skip the Bacon: Overlake cardiac physician bloggers talk heart health. Moderated by Brian Kuske, Overlake director of cardiac services.
• 3 p.m. – Getting Back in the Game: A lighthearted look at how sports medicine has evolved since 1960, featuring players from the legendary University of Washington football teams of the 1960s and Overlake physicians. Moderated by Patrick Moody, Overlake director of marketing and public relations.
Overlake surgery staff will demonstrate the da Vinci robotic-assisted Surgical System and children can use real laparoscopic surgical tools to perform a ‘candyoscopy.’ Attendees can also visit an historical display, information booths and talk with Overlake physicians and medical experts about behavioral health, diabetes, nutrition, cancer care, cardiac/stroke care and orthopedics.
In a special area just for kids, participants can pick up a passport to fun activities – hula hoops, jump ropes, a three-legged race and more – and receive prizes for each activity completed. For full event details, visit www.overlakehospital.org/fair.
