Redmond soccer eliminated by Issaquah — again

For the second straight season, Issaquah High School eliminated Redmond from the Kingco 4A boys’ soccer playoff tournament.

The Mustangs led 1-0, but the Eagles tied it up with a penalty kick in the second half and then won in a shootout, 4-3, last Saturday at Issaquah High in a loser-out playoff contest.

Junior Andrew Leadbeater, the No. 2 goal scorer in Kingco 4A, gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute off a pass from Cooper Bilginer, but the Eagles evened the score with a penalty kick by Drew Tacher to force a penalty-kick shootout.

The Mustangs, who featured eight contributing underclassmen players, finished the season with a record of 10-6.

“We have had a really positive year in a very competitive conference,” said Redmond coach Patrick Scheibe. “We beat the top team in the league and improved as the year went on. It was very encouraging to see how the younger players developed. … We had outstanding leadership from our seniors who set a high level of excellence for the younger players to achieve. All in all, it was a great year.”
